Benefits DESCRIPTION OF BENEFITS
Fringe benefits are offered to all full time employees. A full time employee is one that works an average of 2080 hour or more per year. Fringe benefits are not extended to temporary employees or part time employees. An employee who is working on a regularly scheduled basis (40 hours a week or more) or on an approved leave, excluding military leave or extended suspensions without pay, shall receive the following fringe benefits: After one (1) year of service to the City, employees shall receive the following additional fringe benefits: The City provides group health insurance to all full time employees. The City pays 50% of the additional premium for family coverage. This premium is deducted from the employee's paycheck on the first and second pay of the month. Coverage begins after one full calendar month of employment. For example; if first day of employment is March 15th, insurance coverage begins on May 1st. The City offers a Dental plan for our employees. The City pays the cost of the employee coverage. Family coverage is available. The City pays 50% of the additional premium for family coverage. This premium is deducted from the first pay of the month. Vision Care is also provided by the City. Employees individual coverage is paid by the City. Family coverage is available. The City pays 50% of the additional family premium. The premium is deducted from the first pay of the month. INSURANCE - LIFE, LIABILITY AND DISABILITY INSURANCE PLANS The City provides life insurance coverage for all full time employees in an amount equal to two (2) times the amount of annual base compensation, rounded to the next $1,000 to a maximum of $50,0000. If a City employee is disabled, he/she will receive 50% of their monthly pay, not to exceed $8,000. Disabled employee will receive this benefit after 90 days. Prior to that, employees may use sick leave, of which the maximum is 90 days. MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT PLAN All City employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week for at least five (5) or more months are eligible to participate in the City's Pension Plan. Employees do not contribute to this plan. The 1998 rate for contribution is 9.1% All employees are vested after ten (10) years of employment. . DEFERRED COMPENSATION AND IRA Employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation program and /or an IRA. Such plans are designed to provide an individual with lifetime income commencing at retirement. The portion that is deferred is not taxable until actually received by the participant. Employees may defer up to 25% of their gross pay or $14,000 unless you are over 50 years old and then you can contribute an additional $4,000 for a grand total of $18,000 per calendar year, whichever is less. Contributions are deducted pre-tax through payroll. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM A confidential counseling and referral service is available to all employees and family members (stepchildren included) through the St. Louis Area Employee Assistance Program. Some of the basic problem areas EAP deal with are; Family, Emotional, Legal, Drug/Alcohol, and Financial. VACATION LEAVE Vacations are earned to a maximum of: SICK LEAVE The purpose of sick leave is to prevent the loss of an eligible employee's wages as the result of said employees' illness or injury. Sick leave is considered a privilege to be used only in case of need. It shall be used for illness, off the job injury, disability, or quarantine due to contagious disease. Sick leave is accumulated on the basis of one (1) day per month while on pay status to a maximum accumulation of ninety (90) days Employees shall be reimbursed in cash at a rate of twenty-five (25) percent of all accrued and banked sick leave, up to a maximum of ninety (90) day, upon voluntary separation from the City. HOLIDAY LEAVE The following holidays shall be official holidays for our full time employees: When a holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday is observed as a holiday; if a holiday falls on Saturday, the proceeding Friday is observed as a holiday. When Christmas falls on any day except Sunday or Monday, City offices, except those involved in necessary service operations, shall close at noon on December 24th. Such a half day is not considered a holiday. One (1) Personal holiday is given to employees within a 12-month period, upon completion of ninety (90) days of employment, to be taken at the discretion of the employee upon approval of the Department Head DIRECT DEPOSIT OF PAYCHECK The City provides for the direct deposit of their paycheck to their personal checking or saving account. INDIVIDUAL SAVING The City offers all employees the opportunity for deposit to individual employee's savings accounts to one (only) of the following:
