St. Louis County Planning Dept's Lead Hazard Remediation Program
The Office of Community Development for the St. Louis County Planning Dept. has received funds for Lead Hazard Remediation for homeowners that live in houses built before 1978. It is a 5-year "Forgivable Loan," meaning if the homeowner remains at the same residence for five years, the loan is forgiven and no money is owed.
To qualify for the program, you must:
- Own the home you live in
- Have a child under 6 years old either living in the home or frequently visiting the home
- Have mortgage taxes paid
After the applicant is in the program, the Office schedules an appointment to test your home for lead paint. If lead paint is found, a Missouri Lead Qualified Contractor will set up a time and date to remove the lead hazards.
An example of work that is done is as follows: If lead paint is found on the old window, the contractor will remove that window and replace it with a new Vinyl window. Please note that metal windows do not have lead paint.
