HPD Receives Grant from MoDOT's
'Safer Routes to School' Program

Students who attend Russell Elementary School will soon feel safer arriving to and leaving from school thanks to a grant from MoDOT's "Safer Routes to School (SRTS)" program.

The Hazelwood Police Department (HPD) plans to use this $18,736.60 grant to help control the volume of traffic onRussellSchool-sm Howdershell Road and to reduce the number of moving violations.

"This grant will pay for officer overtime to step up enforcement around the school and to provide a safer environment for kids who walk or bike to school, particularly along busy Howdershell Road," according to HPD Special Operations Group Traffic Management Team Supervisor Sgt. Tim Burger.

The HPD will be focused on reducing speed violators, tailgaters and those who make improper lane changes or perform other dangerous moving violations.
