Cardinals’ Fredbird Makes Surprise Visit for Summer Day Campers in Hazelwood

Fredbird-SummerDayCamp-smOn opening day, local kids participating in this year’s Hazelwood Summer Day Camp were pleasantly surprised when popular St. Louis Cardinals mascot Fredbird showed up for a visit.  He arrived with a kickball in hand ready for some fun.

The children gave Fredbird high-fives, hugs and danced with him outside the pavilion at Howdershell Park.  Fredbird selected two teams to play a game of kickball.  He was the All-Star pitcher for both teams.  But he didn’t have much luck with his kicking since the kids threw him out twice.  The game ended in a tie with everyone in a good mood about Fredbird’s appearance.  After the game, all the Day Camp participants posed for photos and said their good-byes to Fredbird before he left to do his other job of leading the cheers of St. Louis Cardinals’ fans at Busch Stadium.
