Hazelwood Firefighters Spend Time Educating Kids About Fire Safety

As part of their Fire Prevention Month activities, Hazelwood firefighters visited Russell Elementary School on Oct. 17 and spent most of the morning teaching kids — both young and old — about the “Stop, Drop & Roll” rule, the importance of having a working smoke detector at home, and having a family evacuation plan in case of emergencies.  They brought with them the City’s new fire truck, the HFD’s popular Safety Clubhouse and an ambulance.

Some of the classroom presentations were given to 4th and 5th graders using the “House of Hazard” display.  The fifth graders at Russell and McNair Elementary Schools are participating in an essay contest for a chance to win a ride to school in a City fire truck.
