Hazelwood Offers Bargain on Premier Pass Memberships Despite Fee Increases

The Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division is raising the fees for Premier Passes on both the individual and family memberships, starting January 1, 2014.  The department has been holding the line on prices by not enacting a fee increase since 2007.  Residents will now enjoy new enhancements such as mirrors, flat screen HD TVs and WI-FI, which have been added to the fitness rooms of both the Hazelwood Community Center and Civic Center East.

HCCFitnessRoom-smThe City of Hazelwood is one of only a handful of local municipalities that operates two full-service recreation centers for its residents.  One is the Hazelwood Community Center, located in White Birch Park at 1186 Teson Road.  The other is Civic Center East at 8969 Dunn Road.  An annual facility usage fee, Premier Pass, is required for access to each center.  Both places offer a gym, fitness room, and game room.  Civic Center East is the only one with an indoor track.  Also both facilities have meeting rooms that can be reserved for groups and special celebrations.

Despite the fee increase, Hazelwood residents are still getting a bargain.  The cost of an individual membership, which will be $60 on January 1, breaks down to $5.00 per month.  This is cheaper than the monthly fees for Club Fitness and other area fitness centers.  For seniors, the annual fee will be $30 or $2.50 per month.  Family memberships (up to four people) can be purchased for $150, which is the cost equivalent of 2-1/2 individual memberships.  At this time, the daily use and guest fees will NOT be increased.

In 2014, for the first time ever, the Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division is offering non-resident Premier Passes.  For an individual non-resident membership, the cost will be $100.  A non-resident family membership (up to 4 people) can be purchased for $250.

For Hazelwood residents making a New Year’s resolution to lose weight, the Parks and Recreation Division is hosting a “Hazelwood’s Biggest Loser” contest for individuals, ages 16 andCCEFitnessRoom-sm over.  This 12-week period will begin on January 6th and end on March 31st.  The fee for residents is $20, ID card required.  Participants will be given unlimited use of the fitness rooms at both recreation centers and a 20% discount off any fitness programs during the contest.  All participants must attend a kick-off meeting on January 6th at 7 p.m. at the Hazelwood Community Center.

Weigh-ins for “Hazelwood’s Biggest Loser” will be held every two weeks and the results tracked by Parks and Recreation supervisors.  The final weigh-in will be on March 31st.  One male and one female winner will be determined by who loses the most weight.  Prizes include a 2014 Individual Premier Pass and a 2014 Individual Season Pass to Hazelwood’s White Birch Bay Aquatic Center.  Everyone who loses 20 lbs. receives $5.00 in Recreation Bucks.

Other price changes scheduled to take place on January 1st include the cost of park permits.  In 2014, a park permit will cost $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.  Non-residents can only rent pavilions at Musick Park and Howdershell Park within 30 days of the event date.
