Hazelwood Police Explorers Deliver Food Drive Donations to TEAM Food Pantry

Members of Hazelwood’s Police Explorers Post #9217 would like to say “thank you” to everyone who made a donation of canned goods, non-perishable food items and household/personal care products for their recent Food Drive.  They positioned collection containers near the City Hall front entrance, next to the PD dipsatcher’s window and in the squad room.  They loaded up their food donations in one of the HPD’s pick-up trucks, which filled the entire bed in the back of the truck, and delivered them to the TEAM Food Pantry.  They were greeted by Pat Piotrowicz, a former Hazelwood City Council member and TEAM Food Pantry board member, as well as Hazelwood Ward 2 Councilman Bob Aubuchon.

Pat gave them a brief tour of the Food Pantry and shared these interesting facts:

  • The TEAM Food Pantry serves needy families in the Hazelwood and Florissant areas
  • On average, they serve 40-50 families every day, Monday-Friday
  • On Saturdays, they are open for two hours and serve about 20-30 families
  • Each family has anywhere from 1 to 12 members
  • All together, TEAM Food Pantry helps 1,100-1,200 members
  • The Food Pantry is supported by a network of 35 churches that collect donations (food/cash) and host fund-raisers
  • Total number of volunteers: 100
  • They get most of their food from the Food Bank in Earth City.  But they receive donations from Schnucks, Dierbergs, Shop ‘n Save, and other restaurants
  • Hazelwood firefighters volunteer their time to help unload food deliveries on a weekly basis
  • In Hazelwood, there are TEAM Food Pantry collection containers at Fire Stations #1 & #2, the Hazelwood Community Center and Civic Center East
