Hazelwood Residents Making A Pledge to Recycle May Win Prizes for 2017 Pledge Card Campaign

Hundreds of residents turned in their recycling pledge cards last year, making a commitment to recycle more.  Many of them were fortunate to win nice prizes for their efforts.  Since the City has a population of over 25,703 people, Hazelwood’s Green Committee has decided to continue this “Recycling Pledge Card Campaign” into 2017 and give more residents a chance to participate and make recycling a lifestyle change.

“We’ve seen a more conscientious effort on the part of our residents to use their recycling carts more and follow through with their commitment.  Each person who turns in a recycling pledge card is helping us win the battle to save our planet.  By producing less garbage through recycling we’re conserving our national resources and diverting trash away from our landfills,” Hazelwood Green Committee Chairman Ron Darling said.

Hazelwood residents are being asked to make a commitment in 2017 to recycle more and put their recycling carts to good use.  They can pick up a colorful flyer containing a 2017 Recycling Pledge Card for them to sign at any of the public buildings operated by the City such as City Hall, Hazelwood Community Center and Civic Center East.  All they need to do is sign it and put it inside the drop-off box at each location or give it to a City staff member.  All the pledge cards will be collected and entered to win a prize from the Hazelwood Green Committee.

There are two prize drawings scheduled to take place: City Council meeting on August 2; and City Council meeting on October 4.  Prizes will be given away for adults as well as children.  Some of the prizes scheduled to be given away for the August 2nd prize drawing include the following: ADULT PRIZES — 2 sets of 2 FREE tickets to the St. Louis Cardinals’ home game against the San Diego Padres on August 24th at 6:15 p.m. (behind home plate), provided courtesy of Republic Services; and 2 FREE karting passes with the option of either mini golf or bumper boats, donated by the Rusty Wallace Karting Center at St. Louis Outlet Mall; CHILD PRIZES –2 FREE Family Packs for 4 daily admission passes to the City of Hazelwood’s Aquatic Center; and 2 FREE batting cage passes at the St. Louis United Sports Academy, St. Louis Outlet Mall.

The City is pleased to announce that the 7th Annual Recycle Day will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The event will take place at St. Louis Outlet Mall in the parking lot, next to the IceZone.  New features for this year’s event include EPC collecting older model TVs and computer monitors for $15 each and Citishred providing shredding services for personal/confidential documents from 9 a.m. to Noon.  More event information will be coming out soon.  Recycle Day will be the third and final opportunity to turn in your 2017 Recycling Pledge Card for the next prize drawing.
