The week of October 15, 2018, kicks off the beginning of Hazelwood’s annual Fall Leaf Collection Program for this year. Collection period runs from October 15 to December 21. This is one of the free first-class services that the City of Hazelwood offers to its resident property owners.
A list showing which streets are assigned to each pick-up week on the schedule can be found in the Fall 2018 Parks & Recreation Activity Guide, pages 22-23. The same list can be found on the City’s website at www.hazelwoodmo.org on the front page under the Latest News section. Please be aware that the schedule may vary due to the weather.
Residents are being asked to rake their leaves to the edge of the street curb (right-of-way) during the weekend prior to their street’s designated pick-up week on the schedule. Avoid raking leaves into the street because they can clog up the sewers, obstruct water runoff when it rains and get stuck to the surface when the weather freezes.
Those who prefer bagging their leaves can do so using bio-degradable trash bags. But the bags of leaves must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday of the designated pick-up week.
City crews will collect leaves one-time on each street during the two scheduled collection weeks. So be sure to have them at the street curb by Monday morning. Leaves will not be picked up if vehicles are parked in the street and blocking access to the leaves. Call the Street Department at (314) 731-8701 when the vehicle has been moved during the scheduled collection week only.
DO NOT put any brush, vines, grass clippings, trash, garbage, metal objects, or garden waste in the leaves collected. These items may cause serious injury to the crew members and damage the machinery. City crews will collect leaves ONLY!
Republic Services offers residents another option to consider. It provides a weekly yard waste service for a minimum of three (3) months for a total of $26.94, or $8.98 per month. This includes the collection of grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs, household/yard plants, as well as real Christmas trees.
However, Republic has an 8-bag limit on leaves for each weekly pick-up. To start this 3-month service, call Republic’s Customer Service Hotline at (636) 947-5959. If residents want to cancel after the initial three months, they must call Republic or they will continue to be billed for this service.
