Many of Hazelwood’s young residents participating in this year’s Hazelwood DARE Summer Camp got to touch, feel and hold some exotic animals featured in Serengeti Steve’s “Reptile Experience” show today. They got an up-close look at a couple of snakes, one being an Anaconda from South America, a baby American alligator, a tarantula, an iguana lizard, and a scorpion. This is one of the quality educational programs offered by the Hazelwood Police Department to show kids there are a lot of fun things to see and do instead of poisoning their bodies with drugs and alcohol.
Serengeti Steve, a former Bel-Ridge police officer turned reptile expert, is in the Guinness Book of World Records for holding a venomous West African Scorpion in his mouth for 17 minutes, 17 seconds. He also kissed the back of a venomous Cobra snake during the Las Vegas show of NBC-TV’s “America’s Got Talent” last year.
Here are some photos of the fun.
