A call is going out to all men and women athletes, ninjas and Crossfit enthusiasts! The Hazelwood Parks & Recreation Division and Kor Komplex will be co-hosting “The Charenji” Ninja/Obstacle Course Race at Howdershell Park, 6810 Howdershell Road, on Sat., Sept. 29, at 2 pm. The word “charenji” comes from the Japanese language meaning self-challenge, trying hard to do something.
The event on Sept. 29 will feature the City of Hazelwood’s existing ninja obstacle course at Howdershell Park plus a few additional challenges added to make it a unique, custom-designed course. Some of the obstacle stations in the race include the warped wall, tire pulls, wheel bridge, yoke carry, unstable bridge, cliff hanger, atlas stones, army crawls and climbing wall. Due to popular demand, the field of competitors has been enlarged to include individuals, age 18 and over.
Fee costs for each competitor are $35 in advance and $45 on the day of event. Only 40 spots are left before the event is sold out. Free parking is available as well as free admission for all spectators who show up as a cheering section. Participants can sign up beforehand at either Civic Center East or the Hazelwood Community Center. They can also register online at https://apm.activecommunities.com/hazelwoodmoparksandrec/home. Anyone interested in being an event volunteer should contact Doug Littlefield at (314) 731-0980 or send him an e-mail at email@example.com.
All participants will be given a custom Charenji t-shirt, a commemorative medal and post-race party tickets. The top three (3) men and women finalists will be presented with special medals during the post-event celebration. In addition, the after-event party will include a DJ, as well as food and beverages available for purchase.
