The City of Hazelwood Honors Two Individuals for Their 20 Years of Service

The City of Hazelwood honored one of its elected officials and a city employee for two decades of service to the community.  Mayor Matthew Robinson and Hazelwood Recreation Supervisor Darryl Miller were both given their 20-year service anniversary pin at a recent City Council meeting and given a standing ovation for their impressive accomplishment.

RTodd&MRobinson-20YrServiceAnniversary-smRobinson was elected to the Hazelwood City Council to represent Ward 1 in 1994 and served in that capacity until April 2009 when he was elected as the Mayor.  As a Councilman, Robinson served on numerous committees on behalf of the City with professional and social organizations.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors of North County, Inc., the Missouri Municipal League, and the St. Louis County Municipal League.  He’s also a member of the National League Cities’ Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Policy and Advocacy Committee.

Robinson has played a key role in making several major economic development projects come to fruition for the City of Hazelwood that have had an positive impact on the local economy.  Some of them include Hazelwood’s $5.7 White Birch Bay Aquatic Center, St. Louis Outlet Mall (formerly St. Louis Mills), Park 370, Hazelwood Logistics Center, and Aviator Business Park.  Most recently, he worked with officials from the St. Louis RCGA, St. Louis County Economic Development Council, and the state of Missouri to bring Emerald Automotive to Hazelwood.

After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1988, Recreation Supervisor Darryl Miller worked for the cities of Maryland Heights, Rock Hill, and Fenton in various capacities before being hired by Hazelwood in 1994.  He oversees several recreation programs and activities for local residents, including the annual Halloween Happenings party and haunted house at the Hazelwood Community Center and the Annual Adults Easter Egg Hunt.

He and his wife Michelle have two boys, one age 17 and the other age 13.  As Hazelwood residents, they maintain an active lifestyle by keeping their kids busy with extracurricular activities in band and sports.  During his spare time, he enjoys going to professional sporting events, coaching youth sports, playing golf, participating in fantasy football, and vacationing in the Caribbean.
