Hazelwood’s Summer Concert Series Offers Great Music & Fun

RetroNerdsDancers-smThey played many of the Top Hits of the ’80’s, giving everyone flashbacks to the days when the Violent Femmes, Romantics, Wham, Billy Idol, Modern English, Boy George, Madonna, Devo and B-52s flooded the airwaves with their pop, new-wave sound.  The band even inspired two local boys, Ian Steinkamp, age 8, and Justin Byars, age 9, to join them on stage as back-up dancers for one of Boy George’s #1 hits, Karma Chameleon.

The next band scheduled to perform at Truman Park is Penny Moon & Copper Creek on Sat., June 16. Starting time is 7 p.m.  This HOT new band features five talented and seasoned musicians playing country hits from today and days gone by.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Penny Moon is the lead vocalist for Copper Creek and the founding member of the band. She has entertained PennyMoonCopperCreekstadium crowds at the Edward Jones Dome for St. Louis Rams football games, and wowed audiences at Fair St. Louis and other local festivals.  In addition, her performances have included military ceremonies, corporate events, weddings and private parties, not only in the United States, but overseas as well.

She is a versatile vocalist with her own kind of style. It’s smooth when she wants it to be, out-right gritty when she needs to be and everything in between.  She can sing a beautiful ballad and then jump right into an upbeat Motown, Rock, Blues or Honky Tonk tune without blinking an eye.  “This girl can definitely sing!”

Hazelwood residents and visiting guests are encouraged to come out and hear her sing on Sat., June 16.  They can sit back and relax while listening to great music and enjoying a beautiful scenic view of the pond from the hillside. “It’s a great opportunity to bring the family out for some quality entertainment without spending a lot of money.  Plus, these concerts give neighbors a chance to socialize with each other and make new friends,” said Pam Reynolds, Hazelwood’s 2012 Summer Concert Series coordinator.

Audience members can bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments. But no glass containers are allowed. In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the Hazelwood Community Center, 1186 Teson Road, in White Birch Park.
