Children who reside in the coverage area and who especially benefit from being recognized as STARS are individuals with:
- Significant developmental delays

- Seizure disorders
- Cerebral shunts
- Cardiac history
- Tracheostomies
- Children with a DNR order
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Any atypical disease or syndrome
- In-clinic mental health evaluation
Each child entered into STARS will have a detailed form created listing:
- Allergies
- Baseline neurological status
- Common medical emergencies
- Medical history
- Medications
Other details about the program include:
- STAR number assignment
- Should you need to call 9-1-1, give the assigned number to the dispatcher who will forward it to the responding paramedics
- Having this information at hand can prove vital, especially when a regular caretake is not present.
- Being connected into a database will allow other fire departments to access STARS information when traveling
Become a STAR
The enrollment process involves making an appointment with a Hazelwood Fire Department paramedic by calling 314-731-3424 or STARS@hazelwoodmo.org if you feel that your child would be a STARS candidate. This paramedic will come to your home to discuss your STARS needs, will go through the STARS forms with you, answer any questions you may have about our program and our future STAR can tour our ambulance and see all the equipment.
