Fire Prevention

Fire Prevention

Fire Prevention is the most effective means for reducing loss due to fire. The diligent practice of fire safety habits, along with common sense can reduce the number of fire related incidents. Fire Prevention is everyone’s job.

Responsibilities

The Fire Prevention Bureau is headed by the Deputy Fire Marshal. The Deputy Fire Marshal is responsible for plan review for life safety and any fire protection related items. Items reviewed are any:

  • Existing building remodels
  • Fire alarms
  • Hood suppression systems
  • Means of egress
  • New commercial construction
  • Sprinklers

Commercial properties are inspected on an annual basis and re-inspected as needed. The Fire Department works closely with the Code Administrator and the City’s Building Inspector on these inspections. Fire extinguisher training is available for any of these businesses.

Fire Protection Permits

Fire protection permits are issued through the building department at City Hall.

Education

October is Fire Prevention Month. During this month, the Deputy Fire Marshal works closely with the Public Relations and Education Officer to educate schools on the importance of Fire Prevention.
